Advisory Committee
Mary Elizabeth Cantu (CENTER) is Co-Founder of Fontmasters. She has a BA in Museum Education from Mount Holyoke College and a MA from University of Texas at Austin in Community-Based Art. She is an adjunct Graphic Design/Art History instructor and founded spare parts. Cantu and Cruz Ortiz founded Fontmasters one morning after noticing a poorly-designed church festival poster announcement (comic sans might have been involved). Her favorite fonts include Arial Narrow and Helvetica. As a child, Cantu dreamt of being Indiana Jones.
Chris Castillo (LEFT) received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Castillo wears many hats and is involved in the Fiesta event Cornyation, is a member of the artist collaborative The Lullwood Group, and works at Artpace. When he’s not “working,” you can find him scanning slides at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens or ushering patrons at the Majestic and Empire Theaters.
Connie Swann (RIGHT) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin and completed her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2009. Swann is a founding member of an artist collaborative, The Lullwood Group; is the Social Media Co-Chair for the San Antonio Chapter of Fontmasters and maintains a phychogeographic themed blog, Chasing Debord: Everything your little wandering heart desires. Swann is an artist and graphic designer who currently lives in San Antonio, Texas. Her font fantasy is to one day own a Bill Miller‘s “Pinto Beans” neon sign for her studio.
